Type and Characteristics
HJ431 is a fused manganese—silicate type flux for welding general structural steels, pressure vessel steels, pipe steels, shipbuilding steels, bridge steels.
The flux causes average silicon pick—up in the weld metal (about 0.4%), while the manganese pick—up is high when using wires with a low manganese content.
The flux is suitable for single—pass and multi—pass welds. The weld profile is regular and the weld interface is notch—free. The weld metal is susceptible to neither porosity nor cracking and is to a great resistant to weld contamination. The flux gives a long slag and it is therefore not advisable to use it when welding cylindrical workpieces with a proportionally small diameter. It can be used for electro-slag welding, for electro-arc welding copper.
HJ431 is surttable for welding on AC and DC at up to 1000A.when welding on DC the wire electrode should be connected to the "+"pole.
HJ431 is best combined with H08A, H08MnA welding wires.
Graing size is 2.5-0.45mm(8-40mesh)
Graing sixe: the general size is 2.5-0.45mm(8-40mesh), the fine size is 1.18-0.18mm(14-80mesh). Damp flux should be redried at 250℃, 2h..
